È Chloé Zhao con Nomadland a conquistare il cuore della gilda dei registi a Hollywood, vincendo il DGA Awards 2021, premio assegnato appunto dai rappresentati di categoria ai propri colleghi. Zhao è solo la seconda donna a vincere il premio, seguendo Kathryn Bigelow che aveva vinto il riconoscimento nel 2009 con The Hurt Locker.

Bigelow sbaragliò la concorrenza anche agli Oscar dello stesso anno, ed è molto probabile che anche Zhao riesca a portare a casa l’ambita statuetta, continuando a scrivere la storia dei premi con le sue vittorie.
