La 34a edizione dei Producers Guild Awards – PGA Awards 2023 – ha nominato Everything Everywhere All at Once di A24 come miglior film, concludendo una settimana di celebrazioni per i candidati in onore del meglio del cinema e della TV della PGA.
Il film diretto dai Daniels, che hanno già conquistato il DGA qualche giorno fa e che è il leader degli Oscar con 11 nomination, ha arricchito il suo slancio verso gli Academy Awards, vincendo il premio Darryl F. Zanuck della PGA come miglior produttore di film cinematografici. L’elenco dei candidati includeva anche Elvis della Warner Bros, Top Gun: Maverick della Paramount e Avatar: la via dell’acqua e Black Panther: Wakanda Forever della Disney.
Il PGA (come gli Oscar) utilizza un sistema di voto preferenziale – entrambe le organizzazioni sono passate a quel sistema nel 2009 – e il premio per il miglior film del PGA è stato a lungo un indicatore del vincitore del titolo al Miglior Film per l’Academy.
L’anno scorso, il CODA di Apple ha guadagnato un grande slancio vincendo il PGA sulla strada per vincere durante la notte degli Oscar. Ha segnato la quarta volta negli ultimi cinque anni che il vincitore del PGA ha vinto il primo premio degli Oscar; il premio PGA si è sincronizzato con l’Oscar per il miglior film 22 volte negli ultimi 33 anni e ha predetto i candidati all’Oscar per il miglior film l’88% delle volte negli ultimi 13 anni.
