È La la Land di Damien Chazelle a portarsi a casa il riconoscimento al migliori film nell’ambito dei New York Film Critics 2016. Il film conquista il premio più ambito ma è seguito a ruota da Moonlight, che vince invece per regia, fotografia e attore non protagonista. A seguire Manchester By the Sea, per cui sono stati premiati gli splendidi attori, Michelle Williams e Casey Affleck, e la sceneggiatura di Kenneth Lonergan.
