“A proposito di Davis” il nuovo film dei fratelli Joel e Ethan Coel prende liberamente ispirazione dalla vita del realmente esistito cantante folk Dave Van Ronk, newyorchese, attivo negli anni sessanta e amico intimo del noto Bob Dylan, come ci suggerisce il titolo originale Inside Llewyn Davis, che riprende il titolo dell’album Inside Dave Van Rock.
Llewyn Davis (interpretato da Oscar Isaac) è un musicista che non ha successo: il suo ultimo album non venede molto, è squattrinato e passa le giornate vagabondando per la città a raccattare spiccioli e inseguendo il suo sogno, credendo davvero nella poesia che scaturisce dai suoi brani folk, un talento però, il suo, non condiviso dai produttori. Il pubblico non può fare altro che provare una profonda empatia per Davis, simile a quella che si provava per il più celebre e amato personaggio dei Coen, Lebowski, il nostro Drugo: entrambi si ritrovano vittime dei potenti ma amati dal p Drugo per la sua sfacciataggine e la sua incredibile e quasi irreale personalità, il secondo per il suo talento incompreso
