Sono stati annunciati i BAFTA 2024, i riconoscimenti cinematografici della British Academy of Film and Television Arts che ogni anno si accodano alla stagione dei premi dell’industria cinematografica, spesso anticipando quelli che saranno poi i vincitori anche del premio Oscar (la cui cerimonia di premiazione si svolgerà il 10 marzo). Grandi vincitori della serata sono stati i film Oppenheimer e Povere creature!, il primo risultato vincitore in 7 categorie su 13, portando a casa anche i premi per il Miglior attore protagonista, Miglior attore non protagonista, Miglior regia e Miglior film.
Il film di Yorgos Lanthimos ottiene invece 5 BAFTA su 11 nomination, tra cui quello per la Miglior attrice protagonista. Buon risultato anche per The Holdovers – Lezioni di vita, che ottiene due premi, tra cui quello alla Miglior attrice non protagonista. Altro grande premiato della serata è La zona d’interesse, che vince 3 premi: Miglior sonoro, Miglior film internazionale e Miglior film britannico. Sono invece rimasti completamente a bocca asciutta i film Estranei (6 nomination), Past Lives (3 nomination), Killers of the Flower Moon (9 nomination), Maestro (7 nomination) e Barbie (5 nomination).
